Stop Talking About Ayn Rand Like She's a Good Person

I keep reading conservative blogs and pundits talk about Ayn Rand like she's some sort of guru. Let me be clear, Ayn Rand is not, in any meaningful sense of the word, a conservative. Ultra-conservative and borderline anarcho-capitalist, sure, but not a conservative. Disliking FDR and Communism are not sufficient grounds to make one conservative. Spouting unsustainable, artless dogma is no better than the worst elements of liberalism. And they, at least, have compassion to stand on.

Besides that, she's an intellectually dishonest, amoral, brazen hack and, as far as I'm concerned, an embarrassment to Philosophy.

From NYT:

"That he [her beau] went on to write several best- selling books of popular psychology and earned the appellation ‘father of the self-esteem movement’ is the kind of finishing touch that makes truth stranger than fiction. For if there is one thing Rand’s life shows, it is the power, and peril, of unjustified self-esteem."
